Default Cytalitic converter?

Did I spell that right?

Who cares. How do you tell when your converter is no good? Are exhaust fumes a good indication that its shot?

Anybody know where I could pick up a stock or any other quality o2 sensor for a D16Z6, at a decent price? I think that they are 120'ish at Majestic.

I was always told that your exhaust would smell like rotten eggs.

first of all get a full flow cat. Massivemotorsports.com has em for like 50 the o2 sensor is gunna cost ya. you can get a universal one for like 75 and splice the wires or u can spend the 110 and get the right one. Ur cat doesnt necesarily make exhaust smell like rotten eggs when it goes bad although i have heard that before too.

Why do you need to splice O2's? my o2 sensor is on my header?

I believe he is taking about universal o2 sensors as most of them don't have a harness, hence the word "splice" into the factory o2 wiring harness.

You could just fail emissions like me and know. I also talked to a friend who borrowed a truck with a clogged cat. It smelled like eggs and stalled out at lights.

I was suppose to go to emissions in December, but CT is revamping its emissions program.

It smells like eggs sometimes, and it really isn't worth replacing right now because the engine is running like ****. Oh well, a swap is comming...

i still dont understand.. if your o2 sensor is on your header, why do you have to bother with the converter having a "splice"

catalytic converter.
and put steel wool in ur cat if it's already gone. that can help. or just get a cheap cat. u can retard ur timing too, doesn't that help?

Well not all cars have o2 sensors placed just on the header. The 96-00 civics have 2 o2 sensors, one on the exhaust manifold, the other on the cat (down stream o2).

depending on his motor type(B16A, B18C1, B18C5, D16...) the 02 is on the catalytic convertor. It is very expensive to get an OEM o2 so some people just get the cheaper Universal 4 wire 02 and cut off the old wiring harness and solder on the new one. Luckily for me I cross-referenced a Bosch 02 sesor and got one for $60 with a OEM type plug. No splicing here....

thats a good indication that your cat might be clogged, and you might need a new cat.

as for the o2 sensor, u can use a butane or propane torch to burn the carbon off the sensor-thats usually what makes them bad is the carbon build up. just take the sensor out and if its covered in black carbon then break out the torch, careful not to destroy it though, u should be able to tell when its clean enough. A tuner i know toold me this after replacin mine twice---ouch where was he at earlier?

I was quoted about 80 to 120 at Napa for an O2 sensor...and over 150 ..I beleive at the Honda dealership...but they are a rip off here! and that was just for the primary I don't use the secondary.

...and ya don't need a cat anyways...I don't have one

but it is a lil "fumey" when you ride behind me!

oo hell yeah dude im from CT too I haven't gone to emissions either. Mine is like 5 months over due Hahaha. I put on a straight test pipe and don't really have to worry. Ud be suprised at the power increase and the nice tone u get from a full flow cat.

And when i said splice the o2 sensor i meant solder the wires on the universal one. Its cheaper but when i put in my header i broke the old one and couldn't use it. I actually bought the correct one for my car just because i wanted it to be right.
