CYP sensor? I think its gay
well today coming home form New York the check engine light came on in my girlfriends 92 hatch dx, well oh coarse it still has the basic d15b7 engine but it threw a check engine light. The car felt like it was going to die andit spudered. I ran a code and it came up 9 which is the CYP sensor. So basically the queston is, where is that sensor at I really don't know. Is it one of the few on the back on the intake mani or what? I have searched and found nothing so please hook it up and let me know. Thanks, dont worry the single cam is most likely done so now shes gonna be a part of LS land.

CYP means "Cylinder Position Sensor", where it's located, i don't know. It's not "Done", it just needs the maintaince of an 13 year old car.

the CYP is in the distributor. it typically does not go bad, it's probibly a connection problem.
check the plugs at the distributor, at the passenger shock tower and at the ECU.
if that doesn't help there is a test for it in the Helm manual.

Re: CYP sensor? I think its gay (hatchi)
all the plugs on the dizzy are good, and the car has ahad a tune up and whatnot because we did drive the car 500 miles from where I live. Which is near Chicago, but the dizzy is making some weird *** whinning noise but it was running good until we got about a hour from my house then the check engine light came on, and we just drove it cause we had to get home. I mean its not a big deal if the motor is gone, we have a LS motor, but the car wasnt ready for it yet cause she needs a tranny. BUt thanks i'll check the dizzy and see whats going on, but I know all the connections are good.

This is a common problem. You'll need a new distributor base. Distributor King, an H-T sponsor (or at least formerly) is a good and inexpensive source for new, complete distributors. Much cheaper than OEM.

if you open up the distributor and remove the rotor, its the first black little box you see thats closest to the shaft of the distributor, it has a 1 magnet sensor on it and the color wires for it are a white wire and a yellow/orange one if u find another dist that maybe has a bad coil you can grab the cyp sensor and just wire it into your distributor and voila you now have a working dist. i guess its easier than swapping over the coil etc. but the sensors are pretty much the same in all dist.

if the distributor is whining the bearing is going. Time to replace the bearing or the entire distributor.
depending on where "near chicago" is, I can help you out if you need help.

Re: (Relic1)
Thanks guys, I just swapped over the whole dizzy cause I have about 4 single cam motors in my barn that aren't in use and I could use for parts. Also, I'm about 45 minutes from chicago, but I live in Indiana. Thanks for the help....another problem solved
