cx is economy with vtec-e engine. so now prob switching to bigger vtec engine. cx has small gas tank. also very light. 1 mirror. no sunroof no wiper, power steering a/c. etc. dx has no power steering but some options like rear wiper 1.5 ltr. more horsepower. some add-ons.

Re: (dantastic)
Great info!
You actually posted true facts rather than pulling something out the A$$ like someone i won't mention. That' someone need to read the forum rules 'cause that's point deductiuon if they actually read the forum rules.

Re: (JDM-Civic-Hatch)
USDM EK hatchbacks are pretty much all the same. The main difference between CX and DX is that DX has more options offered by the dealer
Both CX and DX come with a D16Y7 engines (106hp).
Exterior differences
DX……………..CX respectivelly
14" rims………..13" rims
Hubcaps………..N/A
rear wiper………N/A
metal spoiler……plastic spoiler
Everything else (A/C, mud-guars, rear shelve, AT, etc.) is optional equipment.
The following statement is the only thing I'm not sure of, but have heard a lot:
CX has longer gears (more economical).

besides the interior differences and the "luxury" differences. engine wise the cx and dx are the SAME for 96-00 hatchs

why are you bumping? its been answered. 96-00 cx's and dx's have the same motor with same tranny. its just the features inside the car that seperate the 2.

99 up cx's came with 14" wheels as well just no hub caps. dx had the cargo cover and the cx did not. my 99 cx has no hatch release up front but i'm sure the 96-98 cx did, not sure on the dx.

Re: (sohc_boy)
cx does not have 106 hp it has 70...... and it doesnt have crappy interiors cause mine came in leather and my car was completely stock when i bought it cx is the lightest car though..i think it ways about 2094 lbs.

Re: CX vs DX (BLUE EH3)
Cx has no rear wind shield viper and is about 100 lbs lighter than Dx. both comes d16y7 non-sohc vtec ( ive havent seen a Cx with d15 yet). Cx doesnt have the "running low" gas light (i think). otherwise, biggest difference is the rear windshield viper. i dont think Cx comes with a/c either. my Dx does.

Re: CX vs DX (skaterguy)
cx's came with 90 hp 1st of all, dx has 100, cx is lighter and no options unless ur lucky, dx came with p/s and rear wiper, thats pretty much it

Re: (Dezang)
The original post was "whats the differnce between a CX and DX ek hatch?"
EK is a '96-'00 civic not older, not newer, just those five years.
This is straight from the dealer manual:
Assuming we are talking about USDM (not JDM, not UKDM etc.),
The 96-00 can be broken down in to two groups, a 96-98 and 99-00.
Main difference is that:
96-98 is OBD2A
99-00 is OBD2B
They have minor differences, but HP ratings are still the same
There were only tree engines released in U.S. for EK's during those five years
D16Y7 non-Vtec 106hp found in CX, DX, LX (hatchbacks, coupes, and sedans)
D16Y5 Vtec-e 115hp found in HX (coupes)
D16Y8 Vtec 127hp EX (copes and sedans)
My statement can easily be verified by either checking with a dealer of by looking at the owner’s manual.
If you have something different to say, then have something to back it up with.
I personally have a '97 hatchback DX with ALL factory options (I even have the window sticker).
Leather was never offered in USDM EK hatchbacks.
These hatchbacks were the bottom of the barrel, no power windows, no power door locks, no power mirrors, no power brakes, no sway-bars… you get my point?
To get more options you have to climb up the ladder step by step, starting with CX, then going up to DX, then LX, HX, and finishing up with EX.
As for those who say their car came with something stock, like leather in an EK hatch, go to a dealer and have you VIN# checked, they’ll tell you everything that came in your car originally. Hell, I have an EX/Si interior, and it’s all factory, but that doesn’t mean it came like this from the dealer, as a matter of fact, I know it didn't because I put it in.
