Default CX question?

I bought a 92 CX about a month ago ... The motor is pouring smoke out the tailpipe when you rev it.. The smoke is blue so its definately burning oil.. I changed the oil hoping it would help ..put 20w-50 in it and still smokes like a freight train... Its not smoking at idle ... The engine has 153,000 miles on it ...im gonna have to start driving it because i sold my CRX and Im hoping its just valve guides maybe just needs the head reworked ...Is there any way to tell if its in the head or in the rings?? Would a compression check tell? And does anyone know what this thing should read on a compression gauge?? Im hoping its the head not as expensive ,since im gonna be doing a swap sometime in the near future ...But if its the rings im gonna be walking for awhile waste of money to fix the rings when that engine is going to the dump in the next 6-12 months...Any help will be greatly appreciated ..thanks ...

I don't know about the 92, but my 93 CX had a recall on the head gasket. I just swapped for a solution.

i think the pistons rings are gone... i sugest you pick a SOHC vtec motor if you need it to commute and want to save some gas... theres alot of SOHC motors for sale and for CHEAP... you can find the whole swap for as cheap as 5 bills.... try check the classfied section or check http://www.streetracing.org check the forum buy/sell parts.....

you can perform a compression and leakdown test to help diagnose the problem.

I had the same problem when I bought my 92 Cx. blue smoke everywhere and it burned about a quart a week. The entire block was shot to hell. Like you said its not even worth it to put any money into that engine, just try to find a d16z6 and throw it in there, besides its a 92 so wiring for vtec is already there.

I had the same problem, infact my car is sitting right now because a ring is popped. those cx models all seemed to have had similar issues, thats probably why the had a recall. Sucks.. get a cheap motor cycle for time being, or an old hatch or crx for a few hundred bucks. It'll be around the same price to swap in another d-series unless you or a buddy can do it.

ok ..I was listening to my engine running ...and the valves are really loud...Since the valves are so loud is there more of a possibilty the smoke is because of the valves or valve guides...GOD i hope its just in the head...Anyone tell me how to do a leak down test..what tools do i need???

Thanks
