cx engine, si tranny, any benefit
ive been lookin at a 92 cx hatch (CAN).
gunmetal paint with metalic flakes
mugen lip
intake
lowered on R1 coilovers
full exhaust
engine is stock. but its mated with an Si tranny. ive read in a few posts of ppl saying that their si tranny's are **** for daily driving. just wondering what kind of benefits this would have or does it just "suck"

I have a D16Z6 & Tranny.
I love having nice short gears around town. Its easy to get in and out of traffic and to pass people with them. I think people are just too lazy to go into 4th and 5th gear to 'cruise' around the city so they just complain that its annoying for daily.
The only thing that is really annoying is driving at 3000rpm at ~100km/h. Sucks for highway gas miliage.

Without that tranny your engine would be a ridiculous slug! The trans will help alot with acceleration, sure you trade off some economy and higher rpms on the freeway but having done this swap and experiencing it from both sides, it is worth it. And later you can put the Z6 head on and give yourself another 30-35 horsepower gain for cheap.

the si tranny gives the cx engine a little more gusto... if i were to mod a stock cx engine .. the first thing i would do is throw in the si tranny. gearing is alot better than the dx/cx...
it may be a little harder on the fuel mileage but atleast you will be able to pass people on the highway

3k at 70 MPH is nothing! B16 and GSR trannies are at 3k around 60MPH...
I'd drive the car first to see if you are satisfied with the acceleration...

I second that. I have an Si tranny on my CX and I am satisfied with the acceleration.

i preffer driving my 92 with a 99 EX tranny (EK) over my 97 GSR.
the hatch feels better on the freeway, to me.. going 4K all the time in the GSR is just abuse.

trust me, there is no suckage, i drove a d16z6 before i had my d16y7, there is a huge difference, long gears make your car a pig. high rpm isn't even that bad at cruising speed, just have to get used to it

The si tranny is every d series guy's dream. It's the perfect tranny. Now all you need to do is throw away the d15b8 and get a d15b7.

I would have to say the 96-00 EX tranny is every d-series guy's dreams... steel shifter forks > aluminum shifter forks, especially when your 100 miles from home and you break a chunk off your shifter fork and end up having to pay $220 to have it towed to your buddy's house at 3 in the morning.

My buddy has 92 cx w/ a 96ex trannie (stock engine), and I raced him in my 94cx w/ stock trannie (stock engine). He pulled me by half a car (not a big difference), but his car is a lot more fun to drive around town. The shorter gears make the car feel totaly different. His upshift indicator stays on in 5th gear though. I think it's because the ecu is confused (since it can't tell what gear he's in).
