Default cx/dx bottom ends

i just noticed, while removing my oil pan (no more turbo) and swapping it for my freinds, that my 99 cx d16y7 has a much beefier main bearing girdle than my freinds 96 dx. i was wondering what other differences were made between years and also if the ex d16y8 bottom end was stronger than my y7 bottom? also i can use any d16 piston for any d16 in my motor right? are they all the same?

The d16y8 is the strongest internally, and yes internals swap similarly to the B series engines.
