Re: cutting the webbing out of the trunk
Just leave the outer webbing. That is the most important part of the web. Is it for weight? If so you won't lose much, but yes, it'll make the trunk very flimsy! And the latch is connected to the web, so you'll need to leave some at least.

Re: cutting the webbing out of the trunk
yes plz for urself leave it in if iirc it helps on rear window support so u may go thru a few back windows and u take out a TON of body rigidy so u may loose weight but may also loose stiffness in the chassis

alot of people have done this. i just havent seen pics of a trunk for a for door.
i have done it to my hood already. its fine if you leave alittle bit in.
HAS ANYONE done this before to their trunk?

My 0.02 Cents..get rid of that heavy 4-Dr and go buy you a Hatch..there's some real weight savings for you. Sorry but I had to say it.

Re: cutting the webbing out of the trunk
lol a hatch is only 100 lbs heavier.
this is not a dialy driver its for autox.
i prolly should have posted in the grownup section
a 4dr has less chassis flex but wont matter once a 12point cage is in it i guess.
the purpose is weight savings.
the only weight i can drop is in lighter replacement parts since everthing is already gone.
next parts to buy
ligther calipers
lighter wheels
aluminum exhaust
aluminum full coilovers

Re: cutting the webbing out of the trunk
Or you could've been a little more specific in your first post as to what your intentions were for this and your car. (i.e. Im trying to shave weight in my car for auto crossing, this is a track car, not a street car.) Should've posted this in the auto-x threads, youd get better responses from people that are more fluent with what works and what doesnt as far as shaving weight safely on an auto-x car. Remember, this section is more of a general technical section, not a specific technical section, where the auto-x section is specific, catch my drift? Not hating or trying to be a dick, just saying.
If you are going to 12pt this car, then maybe get rid of the roof webbings too, if its strictly going to be a track abuser. Have you looked into any plexi for your windows as well?
