cut stock spring or use ebay coils? opinions needed
well i am looking to get my car lowered,i am Broke!!!Heres my options i can cut the stock springs,Or i already have a set of the ebay coilovers.which should i do.i have been doing alot of reading on both and i know that neither are good im just looking for opinions on what is better just for summer or until i can get full suspension.i do not plan on slamming the car and i do plan on using the stock struts,so ive read its safe to use the stock shocks up to a 2.5" drop.thanks in advance!!!

don;t do either of the above choices
your car will hide horribly and you will literally bounce all over the freeway
save your money for something decent

I would start by switching to your ebay coil-overs. They are nice, adjustable, and payed for. Cutting your origional springs will be more work than removing the old and installing the new to specific prefs. Plus if you cut your stock springs right off the bat will leave you nothing to fall back upon if something goes wrong.

if i did cut the springs i would only cut of 2 coils.so it is better to put the ebay coils on instead of cutting the springs? And This is only for a couple months until i get money for a full suspension

either choice will result in blown shocks because the stock shocks are not designed to handle this increased load... keep the stock shocks/springs until you can afford something decent

Let me just worn you that you shouldn't just stright up cut 2" off your springs. Creep up on those punks slowly, or you'll be kicking yourself in the ***!

you shouldn't be cutting ANY coils out of stock springs.

I'm in a similar financial situation where I can't get all of my Suspension Parts at the same time. So, IMHO...
Shocks first, Coilover Sleeves & Camber Kit second, Cut Springs never...
You want to make sure that your car can handle the load you give it. If you lower your car on stock Shocks/Struts, you run a much higher risk of blowing them out, as they're designed for a specific range of travel and load handling.
eBay Coilovers > Cut Springs for sure... Anything is better than cut springs... I'd rather drive around with 3000 extra pounds than run on cut springs...
Unless you want to buy Tires every 4 months (or even worse, a new car), you need to be very careful about how you go about dropping your car. Camber Kits, Suspension Tuning, and a lot more reading will help you get what you want out of your car, with the least amount of problems. Since we're not kajillionaires, we have to do so slowly and surely... If your main motivation for lowering your car is for looks, then you need to consider the sacrifice of things like ride quality and safety (to yourself AND OTHERS!)...
But what is it that makes you think the Coilovers from eBay are bad? Are they used? What brand are they? Do you know what kind of spring rates they're setup with? Have you already tried them?
My vote... Keep the Suspension stock. Re-sell your eBay Coilovers if you're not happy with them (or get a refund ). Save up for some parts that you know you'll like.
Let us know what you do!

Koni yellows + H&R race springs FTW!!

Re: (Sleepy_Red_hatch)
if i was you i wouldnt do either i have seen them both done and neither are that good generic coils will blow your struts for sure and give you a bad camber angle so your tires will wear unevenly cut coils tend to bottom out easier

A.) the stock shocks will not survive past a 1 inch drop for longer than about six minutes and even that reduction in ride height will be pushing it.
B.) why do people act like modifying their car is some kind of cancer treatment? Seriously, kid, you're not going to perish if you don't have a lowered Civic for another month while you save up to do this **** right. Didn't your father ever tell you "do it right or do it twice"? Cutting coils is terrible for handling and dangerous. eBay coilover sleeves are absolute ****. Put your piggy bank back on the shelf and grow the expletive up for another month while you save for some reasonable shocks and springs that don't completely suck ***.
C.) 2.5 inches on an EG is pretty ******* low.

Then hold off messing with your car until you can afford quality parts, like everyone else had to do. You aren't going to die if you have to ride on stock suspension for another 3 months. Do it right the first time or you're going to be shelling out more money to fix problems in the future. I've come to expect topics like this from 16 year olds, but at 19 you should know better. Get your priorities straight - some things are more important than the silly ride height of your car.
If you can't afford to do anything but cut stock springs now, how are you going to be able to afford the alignment to keep your tires from wearing out? How are you going to be able to afford new dampers when yours **** the bed from being bottomed-out?
