so im trying to import a hatch from japan. customs wants us to pretty much strip down the car in order to import it through customs as "parts". then reassemble the car once it gets to the usa. anyone out there imported a car from japan and had to do the same thing, or did you go about it a different way?

You can import it with a race/show only registration and then see if you can change it later after it is here.

Depending on your state laws registration can be a biotch. Cali is real bad, but I am working on a few cars to get registered, I was told it will be anywhere typically from 1 to 2 thousand. Find a hook-up first to get a good deal on a car that comes in. A few shops I know have gotten some complete cars in every now and then.

Hey Ridiculous, sorry, but all the shops I know are local and they do not take care of registration for you which is the hardest part since the DMV requires a pink slip that is impossible to aquire from Japan. The only shop that I know that actually takes care of all this is Hookups in the 909 cali area, but I do not know them personally, but my friend has sold them cars that they have successfully registered and sold.
