Has anyone ever took there 96 or 99 stock Civic front grill and cut it out to make it look like an si or type r grill? If so got any picture and tips?

I did mine with some gutter guard from Home Depot. A couple hours later and about 1.50 less rich I had a custom grille. PM me for pictures.

i tried to do it...
didnt like the way it turned out and ran the grill gutted instead...I like it that way now

i did mine on my 99...it came out looking good, but it doesn't look like the SI/CTR grill. i cut out the horizontal "bracing" where the H was, but it would have looked horrible if i put the grill behind the plastic. there was two gashes left from the cutting of the horizontal bar. i placed the gutter between the trim cover and black frame. it looks good for what it is, and a little different than everyone's grill.

that was until tuesday night when i ordered the CTR grill from jdmshit.com haha.

i did the SAME EXACT thing. i suggest just dishing out the 50 bucks and getting a JDM **** grill. u'll thank urself later. JDMshit grill

yea, it is pretty easy to do it yorself. i did mine, only took me about an hour.

if its a 99 grill you can just order the oem insert from an Si...just got mine today

probably from the dealer, since it is oem.

however, the oem em1 si grille insert does not fit with the non-si outer moldings. the molding for the si and the non-si are different and will not fit together flush... this is easily seen by visual inspection... just go look in appearance/cosmetic for si and non-si pics...

you need both the oem outer molding and the grille insert and this will only fit on a '99 or '00

I did the gutter gaurd thing. It was kind of a PITA if you ask me. Plus, on a cross-country trip, I hit a bird and it pushed in the gutter gaurd. I bought a knock-off Type R grille and it fits like crap. I should've either shelled out the money for a real one or kept the OEM one.

The pieces apart - you can see where I cut the old grill out. That's home depot gutter guard.


Here's the finished product before I put it on the car. Painted with High Temp flat black spray paint (no idea why I chose High temp, it doesn't matter)
