its when u hit the curb with the side of your rim while taking a turn. they look like,well um **** thank goodness i make wide enough turns to stay away from the curbs.

no it's chunks of the lip of the wheel that get worn off when rubbing against a curb or whatever else...

it depends on how bad you hit the curb. If you hit it at a slower speed, than it will probably leave a small scratch which probably will be un-noticeable at first glance. If you hit the curb at a decent speed, than you will leave a deeper and more damaging scratch. Use your imagination a bit and you should be able to envision it in your head....

hahah nah just playing. it scratches the lip of the wheel up pretty bad on like a polished lip its not as bad as say a bronze or any painted wheel

If you have the curb damage and there scratched up, sand the scratches a little bit if you plan on painting them then it'll be like you never had the damage.

Use a file... it goes faster and comes out looking decent...
Painting them will certainly reduce the noticablity of the curbage... but it won't make it go away...
even filing or sanding will leave it as noticably un-even on the lip...
I don't have any pictures to post... I thought I had some from work on my camera but I don't...
