CTR cams...is this a good buy for them??
Hello my fellow Honda-Techies, As you all know i recently droped in my gsr motor into my 4-doo96dx civ. I LOVE IT!! Even though ive been driving it around with out a licence plate, therefore limiting my experience with her yet. But the points is that I, yesterday came across some CTR camshafts for 275.00 at a local shop.
Now dont they usually sell them on the net for 325.? (then plus shipping?)
So just wondering what you guys think. Is there anything that i should look for on them?? Incase something is wrong with them? And aslo, to verify that they are the real ctr cams...Well i know that they need to have the 'R' on the end of BOTH cam shafts right? And also when you buy cams thats all that comes with them right? just the cams and thats it.?? p
experienced cams buyers need your help.

If indeed they are R spec. cams, you're gonna want ITR intake springs, you can substitute GS-R intake valve springs on the exahust side since the C1 intake spring and C5 exahust spring are the same part No.

Re: CTR cams...is this a good buy for them?? (VTC_CiViC)
yeah i knew that already but thanks anyways, cuz thats what i was planning on doing. OK but know a new question, forget the above. "I know that the ctr cams make a hell of a diffrence in the b16 but what bout for a b18C1?? I know that ctr have about 2-3deg more lift right, but will ITR cams respond or improve my horsepower more than ctr cams??
EDIT= Also i know that everyone says that these are probably the best midrange right? But is there any disadvatage to them like for example losing TORQUE??

As far as the intake cam goes, the B16B is slightly more aggressive, as for the exahust cam, the general concensus is that the B16B has a slightly more aggressive lobe, but I've read recently about somebody taking specs on 2 new exahuts cams (B18C5 and B16B) and noting that although the B16B may have had a hair more lift, the C5 had a few more degrees or duration, which would ultimatley be better for N/A top end pulls (considering the closeness of the lift heights).

Are you sure it is a set or just the intake camshaft? $325 is too cheap for a set of "R" cams especially CTR's. $275 for the intake alone is a little less then I normally see. Then again I practically stole my CTR cams at a measly $200!

Full online Acura parts catalog. ITR cams are $212.50 a piece, and the valvetrain's not too expensive either.
