A crazy dyno day (B18C/hatch)
Alright well I got the car dyno tuned the other day and I must say it was a LONG day!!!!
To breifly summerize the craziness, my car was all done with tuning and it was decelerating. The guy who works on my car got out of the car as the speeds were dropping to about 40mph. All of a sudden I look back to see the car swerving and eventually comes to a stop. The front right strap had broken and my car was the first it happened to....lucky me !! Fortunatley all that happened was one bang into the machine which created a few little gashes on the lower front bumper and which will all be redone for free by his body guy. Sorry if this sounds confusing, but I am in a hurry.
Now for the good stuff--
First "The Car"
1993 Civic hatch
B18C (JDM GSR)
Skunk2 IM
Skunk2 chipped p28
DC 4-1 Header
Apex-i ws exhaust
Apex-i Vtec controller (new version)
Well we made bets and my guess was 171 to the wheels. The lowest guess was 165 and the highest was 172.
After 4 runs, my car belted out 183.4 hp's to the wheels
130.1 torque
It suprised most since it has stock head and bottom end. I was very pleased with the result
My gf has a scanner so i will get the charts up when she get back in town
Also, my car made the hp power at 8000rpms.......should this be my shift point!?!

What!?!? motor setup? 130.1 to the wheels is pretty damn good torque numbers for my mods.

Re: A crazy dyno day (dohcVTEChatch)
Thats nuts bro....but thats SICK!!!!! My 94 GSR only put down 167whp and 132lbs of torque w/ no tuning.....and you basically have the same mods as me...but yours is "JDM" lol! Good chit tho!!!! What was your baseline dyno run before all tuning? stock gsr cams?

Re: A crazy dyno day (iH8RICERZ)
I thought the baseline was even more impressive because it put down 178 whp, which already beat all of our guesses....lol.....ohh and yes stock gsr cams/camshafts/head/block......stock everything besides bolt-ons lol

yeah but he's na and you're not. i'd like to see how much torque he'd have with a turbo. gotta love a boosted d though. remember, a dyno is just a utility for tuning. those numbers really don't mean much of anything, and will vary from dyno to dyno.

jdm motors are funny like that I remember my friend in 99' made 188 whp with his jdm itr motor good numbers even back then.

i just think using a chassis dyno is funnier. if you want a proven accurate number, you need to use an engine dyno - not a chassis dyno. here, he says what i'm trying to say very well.

- Temperature
- Barometric pressure
- Humidity
- Tire pressure
- Thickness of gear oil
- Thickness of trans fluid
- Clutch pressure
- Tightness of hold-down straps
Chassis dynos were not intended to give accurate horsepower numbers. They were designed to give consistent results to allow the tuning of cars in race trim. For this purpose they are perfect. If you dyno a car on a dynojet and then start tuning it, re-dynoing it after each change you will get an accurate representation of the effect of your changes - which is what it is supposed to do.
If you really want to know what kind of power your engine makes then you need to take it out of the car and put it on an engine dyno.

also, every dyno is different from the next.
