I HAVE searched this but no one really answered my question. Im trying to take off my crank pulley but the bolt isnt budging. Im using a huge pipe wrench to hold the pulley still and its working like a charm, Im also usuing about a 3' breaker bar to try to get the bolt to move but it wont. I want to know if im turning it the right way because someone told me that I should be trying to spin it clockwise and not counter-clockwise. so which way is it? I need to know soon because Im trying to get my motor in the shop today and it just ate one of my wrenches. thanx

its counter clock wise for sure i broke mine turning it clock wise i had the same problem as you good luck

Edit: I messed up saying muscle cars was clockwise, for muscle cars you used to be able to have a breaker bar touching the floor and you turn the motor off with the key and the bolt comes right, provided the breaker bar doesnt break of course

counter clockwise for sure.... take the handle off of a jack, and turn it around... put it ALL OF the way down on the breaker bar, and try to bust it loose.... thats what i do when im not at the shop

Counter-clockwise. Only the powersteering pulley is clockwise .

wedge a 12" 3/8" extension thru the crank pulley holes the will help the pulley stay put.

Air tools start with lower air pressure and work your way up if the lower pressure don't work.

i can tell you right now that you need a very bad-*** air impact to take off that crank bolt. i have a 600 lb ft air impact and it stuggled to bust it free. also at our shop we have a dual stage twin 4-cyl air compressor that pumps out 87 cfm. so you can see this isnt a feasible option for the home mechanic.

well **** me. also, is it just me or does a y7 not have holes in the pulley for me to put a 12" 3/8ths extension through. im thinking on calling it a day and just taking it to the shop thats going to be doing the maching and putting in my pistons and rods.

I had a buddy of mine hold a big screwdriver agaisn't my flywheel to keep it from moving...then i took the end of my jack handle off and put it over the wrench....finally broke free...takes some muscle but you can do it...

yeah, I know about the tool but I think paying $67 plus shipping to get that tool to use once, plus, I needed it before 5pm today. I just made a deal with the guy boring my motor 20 over and putting the rods and pistons in... he said he'd get that and the flywheel and rest of the stuff off for like 20 bucks. so there is really no need for the tool now. thanx for all your help though folks.

shove a big ace screw dive in the flywheel inspection plate. the kick the breaker bar.. worrksliek a charm. also a lil heat doesntr hurt....

ive done 9 crank pully liek that. also when u get it off put oil on the treads so next time it wount happen agine

do not get the pulley off by wedging something in there. that's just asking for more trouble. i've seen a few threads on that.

buy that tool or the snap on one, or use an impact.

Just tried on my 97 GSR swap before i put it into car, my 600 reverse isnt doing a thing either and I have a 10 gal compressor.

Or just use an airgun (works the best and fastest)

I got tired of trying to get the daymm pulley nut off so i just left it on. I melted the timming belt cover and removed it. I figured I don't really need the cover since i'm not racing no one. Now i can easily replace the timmig belt cuzz the timing cover is not in the way.

All I have to say is wow!!!! I ran with out my upper timing cover made it about a week and small rock found its way up there and in between my timing belt!!!! SNAP IS ALL I HEARD AND THEN MOTOR DEAD! Good luck man!

All you need to do is drive to a mechanic & have them break it loose & put it back on ($10). Then drive home & take it apart.

Don't EVER put anything in the flywheel inspection area. This is what happens.

make an extension that extends passed ur wheels then take a long extension i mean LONG (i used my floorjack stick) then jam a screwdriver, a sturdy one, into one of the holes and break that ****
