Default Cracked exhaust manifold

96 civic EX

I wanted to know with a cracked exhaust manifold..........

Can you lose power?

Can it make the exhaust louder?

Would it set off a check engine light?

can it make the car run rich or lean?

If the crack allows outside air to mix with the exhaust gases, then your engine will run rich = possible bad gas mileage, fouled plugs, cat destruction, and CEL code.

Yes, it can contribute to extra noise. You could take it to a muffler shop and just have them weld a bead along the crack and that will be a cheap temporary fix. An aftermarket header for the EX would also be very easy to find and ~$200-$400.

Mine had cracked/split right through the crotch of the manifold, yes it was louder, but I never noticed any decrease in power, it never made my CEL come on, and I was quite happy with the "Dorman" OEM type replacement, think it ran about $110/$120 ( since I keep my delsol in stock configuration )

I had a slight decrease in power, granted its only a SOHC, but it did make the car louder. It also contributed to the failure of the O2 sensor. Spend the $100 and replace it. It was a real easy swap just had issue with some old rusted bolts.

Going to, just deciding on headers or manifold. My car seemed to get louder at the exhaust, I do have an aftermarket system, but still got louder and wanted to know if a little crack can make more exhaust noise or is it my imagination.

No CEL's by the way.

This happened in my '90 Accord, and it did set off my CEL, which caused the ECU to switch to Limp Mode, and that made it run richer.

Got a new header, it was original manifold was cracked.

The idle seems higher, I am wondering will the computer adjust, since I had the crack before now I do not, can that make the idle higher?

No CEL's

It is a 2 piece 4 2 1, there is a bung right in the middle by the joint.
