Cracked exhaust manifold
Hey all. I did a search and found a bit, but not quite what I needed.
My wife has a 99 Civic DX hatchback (1.6L). The CEL recently lit up, and after having the code checked, a hairline crack below the O2 sensor was discovered on the exhaust manifold (not on the block, but the header). I understand that this can be common.
My question is: Is there any damage in driving the car with this crack, besides having the CEL come back on. Does it necessarily need to be replaced? What is the typical cost for having this done.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Cracked exhaust manifold (roper4092)
Man, you can find a manifold for that in no time. Its not really gonna hurt in the short-term to leave it as is... but you might-as-well fix it. You can get that part cheapely(sp?) and replace it yourself if you know how to work a ratchet.
100 bucks and a 1/2 an hour.

That manifold was hard to find for me when I bought my car with an aftermarket header. If the crack is all the way through then you will have an exhaust leak there and it could get into the cabin which is not good. Try getting it welded at a muffler shop. I'm not sure if JB Weld is strong enough to withstand the immense heat it produces.
