Default crack in tranny?

I have a 99 ex coupe 5spd and just had a brand new oem clutch put in about 3 months ago. Just recently i noticed it was starting to slip again when i shifted at high rpm. I thought there is no way it could be slipping already b/c i know i havent burned the clutch at all and i dont drive the car very hard. Then i remembered that i had the rear main seel replaced when i had the clutch put in b/c my car was leaking oil it looked like from the tranny! Well the car started leaking oil again from the same place! So i took it back to vsv (or velocity now) and they said its not the rear main seel but they think there is a crack inside the tranny somewhere? The clutch is slipping worse and worse everyday. Has anyone ever heard of somthing like this? Please help?

I have heard of the rear main seal leaking onto the clutch disc and causing this type of problem. However, you've said you had that fixed.

As far as a crack in the tranny goes, the only place it seems to me that there could be a crack to allow fluid to reach the clutch disc would be in the bell housing of the tranny around where the mainshaft sticks out.

It would be on the side of this picture that you can't see.

It seems unlikely to me for a crack to form in the tranny, especially in this location, unless it's been dropped or something.

I highly doubt you have a crack in the tranny, but it is possible. I would first check the fluid level in the clutch reservoir. If it's low, you could be losing fluid at the slave cylinder which might be getting on your clutch. If not, I'd say it's your main shaft/input shaft seal. Just my thoughts though. Good luck.

BTW, new clutch means new pressure plate and clutch disk with resurfaced flywheel right?

That's not good at all. I'd say it's the shaft seal. How many miles are on the tranny? It doesn't make any noise does it?

i got the car like 2 1/2 years ago and the tranny was messed up so the guy i got the car from had someone put the tranny in thats in ti now. So im not sure how many miles are on the tranny but the motor has almost 80,000 not that it matters. It doesnt make any noises or winding except if im in 1st gear and lettign off the gas goind really slow. but thats the only noises its ever made! How do i check and see if its that shaft seal? i looked at the shatf seal and it didnt really look like it was leaking but then again i dont know exactrly what to look for!

The seal I'm referring to inside the clutch housing. You won't be able to inspect it until you take the tranny off. Some of those trannys had problems with input shaft bearings going out in them and that's why I asked about the noise. If it is making the noise you would be able to hear it at idle with the clutch out. When I'm listening for that noise I drive the car around for 15-20 mins. (normal temp) and then stop, put it in neutral and press the clutch in and out. If it does have a bad bearing you will hear it when you let the clutch out. Some noise is to expected from the tranny, but if it is excessive, then there is a problem.

First of all, is it leaking oil or MTF. Get some oil dye and throw it in the oil, then use a blacklight and if it comes up bright yellow then its an issue with the block, if its leaking MTF its an issue with the trans. Your input shaft seal might be leaking, thats what my problem ended up being (my tranny still leaked after I replaced the rear main).

its leaking oil for sure im just not sure where its comin from! I noticed there was tons of oil all over the speed sensor on the back of the tranny! i think its the speed sensor but if you look directly above where the throttlebody meets the intake the sensor is under that but on the tranny! MAyabe that could help i dont know if that means anything!

Its probably coming from the starter...thats where my oil was coming from. Unbolt the starter and look at what you see

My guarantee is that its the input shaft seal, if the rear main has already been replaced.
