Default CR-X/94 Del Sol VTEC engine/OBD1 ECU - Read these OBD1 CEL codes (video)

HEy what do these codes read out?

I can look up what the codes actually are, but I want to be 100% sure I'm not reading them wrong before I start diagnosing.

This link should take you to the video. Thanks!

Say what codes you think you have and I'll tell you whether you're right.

6, 7, 10, 14.

Found a snipped wire on the coolant temp circuit, connect it and code 6 went away.

swapped the map and TPS plugs and code 7 went away.

Swapped the IAT and IACV plugs and codes 10/14 went away.

Now code 10 (intake air temperature) is back - I'm thinking it's a bad sensor because I cleaned it (was very sooty and black) and the code came back.

Now I'm more interested in your diagnosis of why I have a code 10 - Intake Air Temp sensor.

Thanks man!

Car?

Swapping sensor connectors can blow the ECU.

Are you sure the IAT connector is attached to the IAT?

Does the connector get 5 reference volts? Does either wire have an open or short?

Close, but no. Zimbabwe! Just reply to the next e-mail you get from a South African prince asking for help moving his money. I promise, it'll all work out great for you

Motor is a 94 Del Sol VTEC.

I will check the sensor with a multimeter like you requested, I will also verify the wire colors. I believe they were red/yellow and green/something but that's a hazy memory. I will verify when I get to the shop.

I don't believe I have any shorts but I will try to test for continuity between the plug and the ECU.

You don't win a free trip to maui but if you make it out here I can hook you up with a place to stay, rental car, and tell you where to go and what to do for the best trip. This time of year is the slow time, not many people here, prices go down everywhere, and the towns are empty by 9pm.. During winter however..... much more crowded/expensive everywhere. We thrive on tourism.

@jbpnoman - heh, that cracked me up. I've tried to get my share of the fortune already... but after I gave him my bank account number he stopped emailing me

@grumblemarc - you again?

You sir, are a bold faced liar. That doesn't look like any Del Sol cluster I have ever seen.

He never said it was a Del Sol, he said it was an engine out of a Del Sol in CR-X.

@ OP if you plug the IACV or Evap purge connector into the IAT sensor it will fry it as soon as you turn the key to On II.

But it's in a CRX though? And it's a B20 (88' CRX) so yeah, he's a liar. How is this not a Hybrid thread at minimum?

Seriously Marc, take a chill pill. I think this forum is best suited to help with a problem involving an OBD1 Del Sol engine and ECU.

Corksil - What specific engine is in your CR-X?

I don't want to have any arguments and I tried to settle this over PM with you, but it didn't work. Please ignore my threads if you are infuriated by them.

If I plug the IACV into the IAT it will fry as soon as the key is in the ignition on position. I didn't know this, and I had the car running (for a few seconds) with the IACV and IAT plugs swapped.

From what you said it seems safe to say my IAT sensor is fried. I cleaned all the carbon/sooty buildup/blowby off of it but the code comes right back.

I connected the laptop to the s300 when the car was running, and cleared the code with the laptop - the IAT code 10 comes back in about 2 seconds after I click 'clear DTC' on my laptop.

When I open s300 in realtime datalogging with the ECU connected and the car running, the IAT sensor output is "123* F" - (123* fahrenheit) - would this indicate that my sensor is bad? This number doesn't change, ever - always 123*F whether the car is running or not, hot or cold.

The car would not belong in any specific forum with the amount of frankenstein parts in it. I posted here in the 92-00 civic forum because it's the closest to what the car is and the problem is the most RELEVANT here. I did not intend to aggravate anyone.

It's an 88 CRX DX, mpfi converted.
The block is b20z2 from 97' CRV.
The head is 94' del sol VTEC.
The transmission is 96' del sol VTEC.
The intake manifold is 94' del sol VTEC.
The mounts are 93' Integra LS.
The ECU was a p30 but had hondata s300 installed and was wired to work with an OBD0 harness.

I believe 94EG8 solved my problem - he said that if I had the IACV and IAT plugs switched and turned the ignition to "on" it would burn out the IAT sensor. This corresponds with what I see in s-manager on the laptop with a constant static IAT sensor reading of "123*F".

Thank you all for helping - I will swap the ~bad~ IAT sensor with a good sensor from one of my _many_ hondas.

I wish there were HT t-shirts for sale (official ones, not cheap garage made ones) because I'd rock one of those all day every day in the shop and part stores. HT FTW!
