Default Coverting from 96-98 to 99-00 Civic Climate Control

I need to know where I can find a WEBSITE or BOOK where it show me ALL the wires from under a 99-00 civic's dash. I've seen people post stuff that shows pics of where each bolt/wire goes. I hope you guys know what I'm talking about. Thanks.

You could get a 99-00 Civic Manual, that would help you.

9 times out 10 you lose a/c with that conversion, the 96-98 climate controls are controlled via cable where the 99-00 are not

Its going to be really hard. You dont loose ac because of the cable vs motor. You loose ac becuase the 99/00 have an extra relay on the blower motor.

I was going to do this as well, I fugured out everything you need to get, and got about half of it. You will have to totally rewire everything though.

The temp control is controlled by a motor that attaches to the heater box. As far as I know, you cannot attach the motor to a 96-98 heater box. So I got a great deal on a 99-00 COMPLETE heater box with heater core, temp control motor and mode control motor. I also have a 99/00 Si climate control.

You will still need two wire harnesses from the 99/00 car, and the vent shroud from a 99-00 as well. (this is the peice that is directly behind the climate control where the vents are. The 96-98 are centered, the 99-00 are to the right. You will have to take the dash out to do it right. I also have all the necessary pages scanned out of the civic helms manual that shows all the wiring. It is pretty damn close, all the colors do the same thing, carry the same signal, but are in different plug locations. The a/c is almost the same except for a relay on the 99-00. So with a little inginuety, you can get it to work.

If you are interested in the climate control and/or heater box, let me know. I can also provide you with the pages from the helms. email me at tony@velascoracing.com I will give you a killer deal on all of this stuff shipped.

and dont forget money. I have never talked to anybody that has ACTUALLY done it though, just a bunch of second hand stories. So I figured out what needed to be done on my own. It CAN be done , easily if you take the entire hvac system from a 99-00 including the blower motor unit. Then you have almost no wiring to modify.

I was going to do it, then said f it. I just made my stock climate control amber instead. Much easier But I really like the 99-00 style, much more user friendly IMO.

No one here happens to know how much fifth gen civic units have in common with 96-98 civic units? I know they are both cable controlled correct? Will it be possible to splice the 96-98 control unit into controling the heater box and blower. I've never looked at it before. I have a 6th gen dash in my fifth gen but have the center unit from a 99-00 with big gaps in it because I can't use the control units. I have my 5th gen control unit in the area right above the cup holders.
I think I can make the 96 unit work with my 5th gen stuff if I can locate the entire center peice.

How'd you make your climate control amber lit??/? Also, is there a JDM climate control that is amber for the 96-98 civic?????

You buy bulbs for the 99-00 Si heating controls take off the orange bulb covers and put them on the 2 main bulbs in you heating controls. I have pics of mine Ill post them up later.

Exactly, but I took it one step further and soldered in orange leds into all of the buttons. And don't forget to put a gel cap in your rear window defroster switch

and i got sucked in and bought this Climate Control off of a '99 Si and now it's just sitting in my room. i would love to put it in, but after all that sh*t i just read at the top, forget it!

gelcaps are the covers on the bulbs...in the si's case they are orange.

The defroster switch in the upper right corner lights up white. Put a gelcap on the bulb too so that it lights up orange

Oh and yes there are JDM climate controls that light up amber, but even those aren't a direct bolt in. You can typically only use part of the hvac control unit and the hazard and defroster switches.... Since they are right hand drive, everything in the car is on opposite sides, including the temp control cable (and thats why it isnt a direct bolt in)

Good thing I am seeing this. My friend wants to do this to his car, but I really don't think he knows what is really involved.

Lemme know how it goes. I need to find a control unit from a 96-98 civic and the plugs for it, otherwise I would have already tried to figure it out for myself, but I don't have anything to look at to see how it works. I'll be lossing a/c eventually anyways when I finally get my engine built up and swaped in. I really want to get some power windows before I do that to
