Default Cop popped my friend's hood.

Then he gave my friend a ticket for violation of code
27156(B)VC Modified
SMOG DEVICE
(P.C. 27150 (A))

Any idea, what that is?
My friend has a 90 Acura with B20 vtec. He told the cop that the only mod he has is short ram intake. THe cop told him to call 800 7822 6633 to get it check.
Is he screwed? Is there anyway to get out of this mess?

THanks

i got the same thing at a stinken DUI checkpoint. if you do a search i did a whole write up on how i am fighting that ticket. its a ticket for modified intake. if your friend's intake is CARB legal, then he should fight it as well. and by the way, my ticket was $360 but if i win the case, i get all my money back.

he needs to show a carb sticker or number for that intake pipe... it's the replaced "smog" equipment...

if it's a reputable brand it should have come with or you can get (by calling the manufacturer) a carb exempt number...

I'm not from cali so I'm SURE there's someone out there who knows more but I don't think he's screwed at all... I think he just has to call that number and give them his carb exempt number...

If he got an inspection ticket then he'd be screwed...

oh one more thing, if indeed it is 50 state street legal, he shouldn't worry about going to a smog ref. if he is going to fight it. good luck with that.

i'm there here in cali, they'll pull you over for the dumbest things, meanwhile, real crime is going on, but they're to busy giving out a air-filter ticket

crucial to your case. maybe borrow a buddie's intake if he didn't take pictures. or just by a new one and bypass the situation for future instances....

- fight it in court, using a carb number if available
- go to the ref to get it smogged (not going to happen w/a B20)
- pay the bail, most likely around 100 bucks for a first timer

i have heard that the cops are supposed to take pics for their case against you. you got lucky if he didnt. if he didntthen fight it. but if he did he will just have to pay like $360. unless he tries to pass the test which is not possible with a b20 because that swap is not legal in cali because its a small truck/suv engine

Should only be around 100 for the "disconnected pollution control device" ticket

I had to pay $363 for the bail amount. Good luck with your ticket, I hope you could just pay it off.

With that setup....stay away from a smog ref. Take care of the ticket for the CAI without an inspection. If they inspect the car, it wont pass with a light truck motor installed it in.

No, my friend quickly told the cop that he only modified the intake so that he can distract the cop for looking at the engine code. The cop was kindda in a hurry to go after the other two guys he just puled over and didn't have time to do detail inspection. And no, no picture was taken.
