Default cooling problem

While on the freeway the other day, my temp gauge went to almost 3/4 towards the hot temp when I was cruising at about 70 mph. I seems like whenever I slowed down to 60 or sped up to 80 it would go back down to normal after a few minutes. The car runs good, and has no problems at all in city driving, so I can't think of what would cause this.
Anybody know?

Flush your radiator/change the fluid. Easy fix.

Radiator is new, along with rebuilt motor, which was installed around 3 weeks ago.

Yeah, but I am pretty sure it is just because I have no oxygen sensor at the time.

I had this same problem when I had my GSR. I replaced the thermo stat, flushed my rad fluid, and the problem went away.

Do you have an OBD1 or OBD2 motor? Im thinking you might have a little bit if air in your coolent, cuasing the thermo to think its cooler then it is, and in turn making it close up and not allowing any coolent to pass through the motor.

Did you replace the thermo when you rebuilt the motor? that could be a possibilty.

Also, your water pump may be starting to fail.

i would have to agree, probably an air bubble in the system. That would also answer why the problem went away when you guys flushed the whole system out. If you have b-series there will be a bleeder bolt on the left side of the head, kinda by itself.

I think it is a obd1 block. Everything was replaced when the engine was overhauled. I will look into the air in the system. Thanks for the suggestions.
