coolant resavoir overflow!?

coolant resavoir overflow!?
after istalling a koyo radiator on my jdm b18c-r i was takin it for a spin, keeping it below 5k, and i started to notice coolant spurting out of my hood where the coolant resavior sits. i pulled over, popped the hood and noticed that my resavoir was full and had overflowed. there was no coolant coming from the radiator and the on dash teemp gauge read a normal temp. my buddy said i was running the wrong radiator cap (generic 16lb) and that was the problem. we upgrade the cap and let it idle for 30m min...no coolant in resavoir....i dunno how that is but im not able to troubleshoot this as of now.....what u guys think?

did you make sure to bleed to coolant system out, def refill the tank and run it with the heater on full blast and make sure you didnt get any air bubbles or jams in your pipes..........thats alli got....................

i couldnt have damaged anything correct.... my boy and i just drained the resavoir and let the car run for like 30......ran cool....before that i was blowin white smoke that smelled sweet like coolant.....
