coolant overflow question...?
i just noticed that my coolant overflow bottle is almost full. i dont really overheat but a while ago at the track after sitting in line for a long time not going anywhere with my car on. it started to overheat a little bit. would that cause the coolant to go into the overflow bottle. i just turned my car off and waited then once i got moving and air went into the radiator everything is fine. the only time it ever overheats is when i am still for a very long time with the car running. is this normal and if so what do i do to get the coolant out of the overflow bottle?? thanks for any help

well there is a rubber hose that attaches the overflow bottle to the radiator,
so if the radiator needs it, it'll suck the coolant directly from the bottle.
and if it has too much.. it'll quirt it into the bottle.
you can easily just lift up the overflow bottle(pull straight up it should come out, its not held on by anything) then empty it to its proper level.
also check to make sure the radiator is full, and that you dont have any damaged hoses.

alright cool sounds good. i was just trying to see if anyone would say headgasket was blown even though the car runs fine, no smoke, and only overheats when i am waiting in long lines for a while with my car running and no air going into the radiator. thanks for the help

That is usually the sign of a very tired radiator or a messed up coolant passage. Have you ever flushed out the engine to get rid of old coolant? If not then i would recommend it. Another common problem with sligh overheating while idling is caused by a faulty thermostat. How old is this car?

i have never flushed out the radiator so i will definately look into doing that. the car is a 96 and i assume it has the stock thermostat and everything. thanks for all the help

When you flush out the radiator first do a pass with your garden hose with the engine not running. The after that start the car and let it run while sending water though it and allow the thermostat to open up so water flushes through it. Make sure you have the heat up all the way and on setting 4. Do this for about 5 minutes or until the engine temp says it is leveled off. Make sure you drain the coolant in a bucket so you dont get government after you. You coolant water mixture when filling up is 50/50. I recommend using HONDAS coolant which is premixed.

my car does the same thing when i let it idle for more then 20 minutes the temp goes up, i'm gonna be doing full tune up with in a month so i think i'll fix the problem

chances are that you need a new thermostat, because the car at idle relies on the thermostat to open and close so that the coolant can circulate.....When ever a coolant over flow tank over flows the car is usually over heating

Explain to me what a tire radiator is ? To the original poster, do you have good hot heat after your car has warmed up ? If so your thermostat is fine, you might want to flush your system and make sure you put 50/50 mix in there. Also replace your radiator cap.

Its not a tire radiator its a tired with a D. That means that some of the cooling fins broke off or are very brittle. SOmetimes the coolant passages are clogged or has alot of debris in them. So i just thought i would call it a TIRED radiator. Dont take it so literally! And yes any 50/50 would work fine but i like to use oem stuff.

Just want to know if any of this helped because I flushed my system and replaced the thermostat, waterpump, hoses etc. The only thing I know to do know is replace my heater core. Also would nitrous have any thing to do with it because everytime I use my nos a few days later the car overheats. by the i have no compression problems.
