Default Replaced heater core hose, now overheating ?

Long story short one of my heater core hoses failed right at the clamp area, so i decided to replace the 3 since they are all old. I replaced the one that runs from the valve on the firewall to the engine, One that is a U-shape and is only on the engine, and one that runs from the engine into the firewall.
After putting the car back together the heater was not working even though the engine was at operating temp. Then the coolant temp jumped to about 1/4in from the top then back down if i backed off the throttle and coasted for a min.
Possible incorrect hose routing? (preaty sure i got that right)
Something to do with the thermistat ?
Any other ideas ?
Car is a 97 Civic Dx W/ Automatic tranny and The old D16Y7 in it.

There should only be 4 hoses on the car. Upper/lower radiator hose, and upper/lower heater hose. Sounds like one of yoour heater hoses is routed from the engine and straight back to it (aka looped). Did your heater work before?

After racking my brain trying figure out if i got the hose rounting wrong, ive figured i got that right. So after letting the system cool down again figured id check the coolant lvl again just to be sure, it looked fine but the upper rad hose felt like there was no liquid in it.
It helps to have a steep driveway, mine maxes out at a 32º angle
I drove up it, then reversed up it to see if that would work out any air bubbles and my god i needed to add about an extra quart of coolant

Heater works now, as well as running in optimum temp range.
Thanx to any one who spent time to look at this
