Converting a KM Guage cluster to Miles

I was wondering if anyone knows a way of converting a cluster to display the odometer and trip meter in miles instead of kilometers. Is there some sort of switch on the cluster somewhere or anything like that?

no I dont think so, Just gotta remeber the conversion factor in your head which is, 1 mile=1.609 km. i am pretty sure than is it, but you may want to double check

put back your stock speedo in your cluster, that's what I did. should work jsut fine

or save yourself the trouble and just remember the conversion factor

or buy some indiglo gauges https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

I know the speed thing is no big deal, indiglo guages and such. I was just wondering for the Odometer/TripMeter. Maybe it was some mechanical gear that could be swapped out of my current CX cluster or something like that.

Does anyone know even how the distance/speed works? Is it mechanical, or is it based strictly on a voltage scale or a combination of the 2?

The odometer (among other things) gets its signal from a pulsing voltage from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). the VSS interemitently grounds the signal wire to the speedometer/odometer and the frequency of the pulses determines the speed and how fast the odometer rotates. So it goes by frequency, not voltage.

I'm guessing that you may be able to alter a KMH odometer with parts from a MPH odometer to get it to rotate over at the appropriate rate. However, manufacturers probably designed odometers to be tamper proof to prevent rollling back the clock, per se.

So your best bet is to do the math. Drive around with a calculator if you have to.

Thanks for the explanation. I guess the odometer and stuff doesnt really matter since I dont plan on ever selling the car. Hopefully I can find a Mile cluster, and it wont be an issue.
