Control arm question
aright, so my dumb *** hit a curb going about 30 mph straight on. my steelies got bent a bit, and were losing air. so i picked up some ls rims from a friend, and now im on those. but now my steering is messed up. while im going straight, it seems fine, but if i turn it a little to the left or right, it cuts by itself. my front left tire also rubs, and it makes a squealing noise. looking at my car straight on, my camber also seems to be a bit off.
from what i can tell, and have been told, it seems to be a bent/damaged control arm. what should i expect to pay to have a good mechanic repair/replace something like this?

Re: Control arm question (egamjah)
If the control arm is bent, you would probably replace it. You can probably get one at a junkyard for anywhere between $45-$60 approx. It's actually not that hard to replace it but if your going to pay someone, then another $40-$60 sounds right.

Well, in my experience, that's how much I payed. Just get one of those neighborhood mechanics to do it. Because if you go anywhere like a shop, they might charge a lot.

I think you should tell your friend to get the mechanic in a headlock and ask for his money back. I replaced the right lower control arm in my stuffy *** garage myself in less then hour with soda breaks and little snack. KNO3 is pretty much accurate with the price of the control arm and also that is pretty much what it cost to have it installed by a shop. You can always do this yourself or with a buddy, not hard at all.

Re: Control arm question (EK project hybrid)
aright, so i asked him again, and now he tells me they replaced the control arm, the tie rod, and some type of bearing. with all this stuff, is it still reasonable that he payed around 750 bucks?

~$100 for the upper control arm.
~$150 for the lower control arm.
~$30 for the outter tie rod.
~$60 for a hub bearing.
These are just off of San Leandro Honda parts
To replace the hub bearing, I'm pretty sure he had to remove the whole knuckle in order to do it.
Did the $750 include an alignment as well?

For 750$ You could get a full gsr front suspension from a junkyard and
figure out how to install it yourself. I put on a swaybar and changed everything
you say may be bent with no mechanical skill or training in my gravel driveway.
Take the bolts out, put stuff on, put bolts back in. Its not like your fabricating
something together, its all bolt on stuff, and then go get a good allignment.

i got a whole gsr front sub frame with brakes and upper control arms and knuckles for $125 from hmotorsonline. i ran into a curb going about 40mph, at about a 20degree angle... i snapped my front LCA, broke 1 rota, and bent my rear spindle. i have the entire gsr front suspension in, incl oem integra lower strut bar and front sway bar, and gsr brakes now. took me about a whole afternoon with just hand tools. now i just need to get a rear disc swap
