Confused with Vtec on my turbo'd b16a
Ok, so about a month ago my vtec quit crossing over like it is supposed to, so I have been trying to get it to work correctly, It was not flashing any codes or anything, so I was thinking maybe the Solenoid was stopped up, but it was clean, I cleaned it anyways. Vtec still would cross over correctly, well I my car ended up flashing code 22 around 6500rpms and the light would stay on, so I checked it and got the code, I bypassed the vtec pressure switch to see if that was the problem, it still didn't cross over right. I decided i'll do an oil change on it and did the oil change.. figured the oil just wasn't giving enough pressure, I did the oil change 2days ago and it was working PERFECTLY and crossed over correctly every time. Well now it is cutting in and out again and it is really frustrating trying to figure this out. I'm scared that my oil pump is going out or something? Can anyone help me out on this??

Are you running a chipped ECU or an OEM one?
could be your engine coolant temperature sensor not telling your ecu it's warm enough to engage vtec, if this is the case the car will most likely be running rich when not in vtec.

I have a chipped p72, but the engine coolant temperature has been taken off of the ecu. It just started happening out of the blue, one day it was working fine and the next it just started cutting in and out.

You could try checking just the vtec oil pressure by removing the allen socket near the vtec pressure switch on the front of the head and hooking a gauge up. I've also seen cheap oil filters not hold oil pressure on even a lightly modified honda motor

When you finally findout the problem, you should try the small hamp oil filters they can bump your oil pressure up 5psi.
Idk if you already tried them, its just an idea

I have already changed the pressure switch and it does the same.

I honestly haven't even heard of those filters?? Where could I get one? Do they sell them at Autozone or what? I might have to do that though, that could help a lot.

Made in America, I would just stick with OEM.

are you only throwing the one code? have you re-set your ecu since reading the code? if you try another computer, try a stock p28.

Re: Confused with Vtec on my turbo'd b16a
It isn't throwing any codes at all this time, it just won't cross over all the time, it'll cross over and then kick out and sometimes it won't even cross into vtec with I run it to about 5500rpms, vtec is set at 4700, sometimes it will run through and vtec cross over with no problems, but then other times it will cut in and out through the gears. I'm running a turbo on my car, so i'd rather not run a stock ecu at all, just don't want it running lean on it. i'm about to change my whole vtec solenoid and try it out to see if that may help.

do you have an ex/si wiring harness? if not have you checked the wires for the vtec solenoid and pressure? i had my solenoid wire break off of the pin attached to my ecu and was causing the same issue you are describing.
