If the fuse is blown, replace it and go from there.

Before adding refrigerant to an A/C system, you need to obtain a proper manifold gauge set and measure the refrigerant pressure on the low and high sides with the A/C running. It's possible that your system dis not need refrigerant and that the problem lies elsewhere.

When you push the A/C button, does the condenser fan run and does the compressor clutch engage?

Using manifold gauges is pretty straight forward. You may be able to rent a set from your local auto parts store. If not, a reasonable set may cost from $50-$80. If you decide to go the DIY route, I can tell you what the proper pressure should be on the low and high sides.

When you push the A/C button, you should hear the compressor make a click sound when the clutch engages, and the engine should idle up to compensate for the increased load.

it could be a number of things but but it sounds like your compressor coil is shot and or the compressor is locked up. more times then not when the compressor locks the coil is still engaged trying to turn the compressor burning the coil up then blowing the fuse. I rebuild compressors so if u want to see about me rebuilding yours pm me please.
