Default compressor has gone out -- question

My compressor just went out, and I have not run my AC at all since the first moment it stopped working. A lady at a honda dealer said it would be cheaper this way...but I took it to another dealer, and they totalled up all this stuff, clutch, coil, dryer, and freon, along with the compressor. I stopped using the AC so I wouldn't have to avoid all of the other stuff....and this guy wouldnt even look at my car! Do you always have to replace all this stuff (pretty expensive) or can you actually only replace the compressor in some instances??
Thanks for any help, trying to save any extra money on this one I can!!!

go buy a used one from the junk yard, and slap it on and take it to go get recharged.

when you do any a/c work you should always replace the dryer.

the clutch is part of the compressor and I believe the coil is too.

So they're not totally BSing you. Be prepared to spend near a grand, though. The compressor alone from Honda is a few hundred bucks.

Buy a remanufactured compressor on ebay. I've seen them for less than $100 with lifetime warranties. Buy a dryer. Buy some R12, and take it to a mechanic.

Yup the drier needs to be replaced when removing parts of the A/C system since it would be exposed to the outside air. Clutch coil is a part of the compressor. Good luck
