compression test results
So i just did a compression test on my b16a and it was 215psi in each cylinder. What compression ratio is this? anyone got a conversion chart or just no if thats the normal static cranking pressure for a b16a?

If you did the test properly as in engine warm, dizzy unplugged, WOT and about 5 to 7 cranks per cylinder, it is pretty much normal. The main thing you want to look for is the difference between cylinders (no more than 10%) and you are good at 215 across the board. With a regular un calibrated Azone or Pep boys tester, numbers will vary greatly (maximum numbers that is) but since you are close between cylinders, you have a healthy motor.

There is no conversion to get a compression ratio based on compression tests. Think about it. Compression test results will vary greatly depending on cams, carbon build up, etc. This is why its DYNAMIC and not static like you mentioned. Static compression would be that of the pistons alone, with the head on the block, all other factors eliminated.

Re: compression test results (Hybrid93Eg)
alright..well the reason i asked is becasue im trying to figure out what pistons are in my car. the kid that had the car b4 me lied about what was done to it before he sold it. there may be 9.0.1 compression pistons in it. How can i tell if there in there or not? o yeah ur only supposed to crank it 5 or 6 times? i think i may of screwed it up haha. i had to crank it like 16 times to get the highest reading. are u only supposed to take the reading after 5 or 6 cranks? thnks

The object isn't to see how high you can get the gauge to go. Everyone seems to think that. Go crank it 5-6 times.. There is no magic formula to show the compression the car has, but there is a GENERAL guideline you can use. In your case, assuming the compression is stock (10.2:1) I would say you should see around 200-220psi. If you had 9:1, then I would GUESS you would see around 170-180psi...

well when i cranked it 5 times it was at 180 psi. then i though i had to crank it till the gauge wouldnt go any higher and it went to 215 so u think i got low compression?
