wouldn't turning the crank with a socket work just fine??

I found out from other threads....u use a batter to give the started 12v and itll be straight

Umm..yea that would work...IF the transmission is bolted to the engine..what if it isnt?

you can do a leakdown test. but, if you don't have the guages, or never did it, i would take it to a mechanic.
