Default compression test, how many cranks?

Just curious,
i've seen ppl saying various different things about how many times
you should crank it to do your compression test.

And some that say just do it till the gauge stops going up,
which makes sense.

but it seems to me that you can just keep on cranking till the cows come home
and the gauge will keep on going up.. might go up slower than the first few cranks,
but it'll climb alil

any thoughts?
