Default Comp Cams

Sup fellas, I just my ZEX cam for my SOHC Civic, and I got a COMP cam instead. This is the same cam, right? I mean, the 59300 ZEX cam is made by the COMP people, yeah? Also, is there anyway I can check the cam to know that it is actually a 59300 ZEX cam... like some etching or something?

Also, my final question how hard/technical is a cam and cam gear install? Would you guys recommend doing it yourself and getting it tuned, or would you take it to a shop? Lemme know... I'm excited

i just finished the exact same job on my 97 sohc, and yes i too got a comp cam,and yes they own ZEX so you got what you ordered, and yes it is hard to do, (expecaly for me because i have little to no knowledge when it comes to internals) but with the help of my friend Sohc_Mshu we got it done after a few hours, but i never used the timing gun that every one told me to get and i had a hard time with lashing the valves, you will need to advance your cam gear about 4 degres and then it should work, with the valves you will need to tune the intake valves to .007 and the exhaust valves to .009 but other than that it sould be no prob, make sure you don't skip the rubber band step it's a must, check this link out it really helped me http://pub161.ezboard.com/fbseriesalternativefrm27.showMessage?topicID=12.to pic
good luck

Its not hard IMO, I installed a Crower Stage 2 with new valvesprings and retainers also. The hardest part was getting the old cam gear bolt off the stock camshaft. Everything else was a piece of cake. My recommendation also is be careful when torquing the valve cover bolts, we broke a few without even trying and had to go to the yard and pick a few up. Good luck though, just read alot and youll be fine!
