which color wire..rear defroster button

Dimmer Switch Layout. which color is which?
hey, i just installed an r1 tach into my 92 dx, i ran the green wire to the blue dizzy under hood, then i tapped the ground into the dimmer, which is black to black, now there is a red w/ black stripe & a solid red...which one does what, is red constant 12v power and red w/ black stripe is lighting?

i tapped the power wire and ground wire into there. the only color left is red, is that it, i didn't think the dimmer lit up...does it?
