Default Cold Air Intake Hosing

On my stock intake on my 99 Civic EX Coupe, there are the 2 vacuum holes but then there there is some sort of an electrical fixture plugging into the pipe near the throttle body. Also there is some sort of rectangular box about 1 square inch thick and about 4 inches long that juts out of the middle of the intake piping. What are these 2 things? If I bought an AEM cold air intake will the piping come pre-cut/holed for these 2 things?

Any advice will be appreciated alot.

OH Boy....welcome to HT...

OK. There is so much information on this topic it's not even funny. What you do to find answers to questions like these is click on the searh button at the top right side of the page. Make sure you check the "Archived content" button as well.

But to answer the question...the "electrical fixture" is the IAT (Intake Air Temp) sensor. There is one vacuum line that runs from the valve cover to the intake . I don't know what the rectangular box is...

Yes, the AEM people are aware of these things and incorporated them into their design. The install is very simple and can be completed with regular hand tools in an hour if you've never done it before.

Don't bother postins pics, the AEM intake for your cars year will take into account the IAT sensor and the valve cover breather

Are you sure the "rectangle box" I speak of is the "valve cover breather"? It just juts out of the middle of the stock intake piping...

But I will post a couple pictures up later just to confirm.

That is not the valve cover breather, that is just another noise reduction chamber

You have one hose running from your valve cover to you current intake hose, that is your valve cover breather

exactly, that box is on my 96 ex also, it is just another resonator or silencer, pre muffler(<-- my personal favorite). dont worry about it, all that ugly crap will come off when you put your CAI on. and good luck with the install

What do you mean by "that crap"?

Will there just be 2 hose lines left when I get a CAI?
