Default Cold Air intake on Eg! Tire hitting splash guard when turning. Anyone else? 2 Pics!

Anyone else have a problem with their c/a/i filter pushing the splash guard toward the front of the pass. wheel? I heard a rubbing sound coming from that side so I stopped to check the area and I have a hole in the splash guard behind the intake filter.

Is this a common problem with Eg's and c/a/i's?

When I bought the car I noticed the drivers side splash guard was cut out in front of the wheel. I can't digure out why someone would cut the lining. There is nothing over there to push it back into the wheel

Driver's side:

Passenger's side where it's rubbing caused a hole:

I bought the AEM c/a/i from a guy from HT not sure the exact car it goes with.
I've got a Eg/Hybrid (GSR)

It's only when making sharp turns to the left, but still it's annoying and I don't need the filter exposed to all the dirt and $hit.

Thanks for any input on this.

I removed all my splash guards. They have been known to cause rust spots on the fender wells. It only rubbed when I ran on 205/50/15 tires.

wow im suprised that is happening with stock wheels. only thing i can suggest is having that intake modified so it doesnt push on the splash guard ahd then get that replaced.

What about protecting the filter of the c/a/i?
Are you running a short ram?

I may do this (remove the splash guard), but I will have to fabricate something to cover the rear side of the filter.

I have an ITR 3" AEM CAI on my car, and my passenger splash guard does bulge where the fiter is, but it doesn't rub, and I have aftermarket wheels.

If it rains you will need to replace your hydrolocked engine. You can't have it open to where water can get in, i.e. hole in the splash guard where the tire will fling water into...

I have the same problem with my cai. I even have my hatch slammed; mine is most likey worse. You need an angled extenstion on the end of the cai... Then replace the splash guard... Sorry no picture, but look through AEM's products.

I may look into Home Depot for an elbow that will extend the filter more toward the front of the car. It rubs a like a **** when making left turns

I definitely can't afford to ruin this motor.

I took all my fenderliners out. It does let your engine bay get dirtier though. I'm running a short ram so i dont hydrolock my engine w/ a CAI.

Default My fix.....

Picked up a sheet of metal from Home Depot today for $3.50

Here's how the intake area looks without the bumper:

Of course with the bumper in place you would never know the metal piece is there

No need for a new splash guard now

I thought that was from me being too low, but I did eventually get it on my driver side but that happend after. And to the people say that you will hydrolock it, I beg to differ. I gone over 30 mins in the rain and going to puddles that sprayed water up to my windows and I've never had a problem with my engine. I have an AEM CAI without the bypass valve. Aagain majority of the time I push in the clutch when I go over them, but still.

how are you rubbing with 13s? and how does ur intake hit the tires, its on the other side of the fender. I have no prob with my aem cai hitting the fender or the tire hitting the fenderwell.
