Default Code P1166 - Manufacturer fuel air Metering -- HOW TO FIX?!

I'm throwing code P1166 - Manu fuel air Metering. I was wondering what that means, and what I need to do to fix it? This is in a 97 HX. I did a 5spd conversion on it and did the IACV fix.

I'll try to help...I am in the process of fixing someone's CVT to 5-speed swap on an HX also...FIRST, did you swap the ECU to a 5-speed ECU? I assume you did since you're getting the P1166 code... SECOND, did you rewire the primary O2 sensor? the 5-speed used a wide band sensor and the CVT used a standard (4 wire) O2 sensor, I'm assuming this is where your problem is...my research indicates that you need at least a 5 wire O2 sensor and maybe even a 7 wire, I'm not sure yet, I just ordered my 5-wire O2 sensor and will install it when it arrives

Damnit the O2 sensor is different too? My god... When is yours arriving? So you can tell me if it works or not. Because I believe that is the final thing I'm having problems with. What did you do with the EGR? Use the auto or manual one?

I bought a 5-speed HX intake which had the same EGR as the CVT intake, I only changed the intake so I could put in the 2 wire IACV. I ordered the O2 sensor Friday night on e-bay (I was told by honda, part number 36531-P2M-A01) honda cost $580, e-bay cost $100 (OEM)...hopefully I will get it by the end of this week...

Yea I did the same thing but there was a different EGR sensor. I just left it as the same one. But there wasn't a plug in the back to route the EGR lines, so I just plugged it up.

Alrighty let me know when you get it. How did you find out how to wire it?

somewhere on the internet, can't remember where, there was a complete honda civic maual that someone had put into adobe, got the complete download (1500 pages or so) the internet is awsome...the main wiring that you will need to do will be three new wires from C23,C24 and C25 which are the wide area senor signal wires, a couple more minor things yet to be determined...

Hmm. Alrighty well do you think you could stay in contact with me through this? I need to smog WITHIN 2 weeks. So if this works for you, and it's the same problem we're having, then it should be what I need to do as well.

Default Re: Code P1166 - Manufacturer fuel air Metering -- HOW TO FIX?! (BlackHXCoupe)

Finally got my check engine light off tonight.
Step 1, buy a 5-wire O2 sensor (honda part number 36531-P2M-A01) there are still 2 left from the person I bought it from on e-bay for $100 + shipping (other O2 sensors should work, mine said NTK (L1H1 ?) on it
Step 2, run 3 new wires from the ECU to the O2 (PIN C23 BLACK, PIN C24 RED, PIN 25 WHITE) keep the existing O2 wiring in place, you will need to reuse some of them
Step 3, connect C23 BLACK to the WHITE wire on the O2 sensor, connect the C24 RED wire to the BLACK wire on the O2 sensor, connect the C25 WHITE wire to the GREY wire on the O2 sensor (these 3 wires are for the fuel sensing)
Step 4, connect the existing PIN A6 BLACK/WHITE (one of the wires feeding into your existing 4 wire O2 plug) wire to the BLUE wire on the O2 sensor, the remaining YELLOW wire on the O2 sensor must be grounded to BODY (I ran a wire under the bolt that holds the O2 wiring by the radiator hose)
now you have successfully hooked up your O2 sensor, but that is not all, if you do not do the next step you may get a P1168 or P1169 code
Step 5, you must buy a 4.7 K ohm resistor and connect it to the PIN D7 WHITE and the GREEN/BLACK (both of these wires feed into the back of your existing 4-wire O2 plug)

I cannot give you any mor information on the 4.7 K ohm resistor right now because I did not buy one, My friend and I hooked up a variable resistor for test purposes, I'll go the the electronics store tomorrow to get the right resistor, we are thinking maybe in teh 1 WATT range, I'll let you know what I come up with.

Let's recap, we ran 3 new wires and used 3 of the wires that existed in the old 4 wire plugin, and we ran one new wire to body ground...

By the way, I have never felt the V-tec in my car kick in before tonight, IT"S GREAT....

Good Luck

So is it a 4-wire or a 5-wire??

I see 4 wires all over the place, some direct fit. And which o2 Sensor is it that you change, since there are 2. I might have missed that.

And damn I can't find the link still, could you link me please?

Again thanks for all the great info. Yea I haven't felt Vtec in my damn car either lol, i've had check engine lights ever since i got it.

Thanks a lot dude! I've been waiting for that.

So which part would I rewire? Do I have to cut off the harness?

I cut off the new 5-wire O2 plugin (yeah, sucks to cut up a $100 part) and soldered it direct, with heat shrink over it, I left the 4 wire connector since I had both sides and used the O2 side wires to solder to...

Wait that was kind of confusing? Or I'm just stupid? So you cut off the plugs off the new sensor and the old wiring? And just wired it up that way?

Ok did it all... but I need to know how/where to put the Resistors?? It's perfectly fine for exactly 2 minutes, then it throws a code again. And driving it longer makes it throw the same code but differen't code numbers. So I really need to know man if you can get to me ASAP. Tomorrow's my last chance to smog.

there should be a white and a green/black wire going into the old/original 4 wire plug, connect one of these to each side of a 4.7K ohm resistor (I bought 1/2 watt resistors and plan to use two of them in parellel, to get 1 watt of protection)
