Default Code 9 after swap, turbo, obdI conversion.

OK, I changed my D16Y7 engine out in my 96 civic. I changed the intake manifold to a Y8 mani, installed a timing belt and tensioner, new stage II clutch AND made a turbo kit for it. It fired right up. I drove it around the block and got a #9 CEL. I swapped the distributor out and it came back. The car is converted to OBDI. I was told be a friend that once he had a bad ecu that threw a 9 CYP code. I don't have a spair ecu but will buy one and chip it if it will help.

Thanks
David

The 2 wires for the CYP are either backwards, or not connected, they are polarity sensitive. It's only a pickup coil, and they rarely go bad.

Well its a factory harness that worked previously on the other motor and the only thing that is different is the OBDIIa to OBDI conversion harness. I will look at that.

Thanks for responding.

You need the repin the dizzy for that harness to work, OBD2 dizzy plug has one connector, OBD1 has two.

I have an OBDIIa to OBDI conversion harness. I just checked the pin out and the conversion harness is correct. I don't need to repin the distro. I did this same conversion in my other 96 and it works fine.

Whoops, didn't see that, you just converted an OBD2 motor to OBD1 in an OBD2 car.

It might be an flaw/error in the harness.

Yeah I checked the pinouts and the harness is correct. I think my friend may be right. I may try another ecu.
