i was driving around yesterday after i put my struts on. car was feeling good during the drive. but on my way home i noticed a slight vibration i saw my RPMs raise and fall but not a lot from like 900 to 700 at idle then the check engine light came on i thought it was my O2 sensor so i went on home. woke up this morning to get the CEL code came up 71. i popped my hood and my cylinder 1 wire was popped out i pushed it back in and started my car still wasnt running right. took it for a drive and it was driving good. but still the idle wasnt right. its was idling from 700 to like 600 n 500. got home from that ride popped the hood again and that same spark wire had popped out again... can anyone help me with this i have a 97 dx

ok well obviously code 71 is a cyl1 missfire. I have read from many people that their wire keeps popping out, I dont remeber what they did to fix it, however. Is the idle bouncey when the wire is held in? Because there is also a mechanism called an idle control valve, or throttle control or something that would make it bounce.

i havent tried holding it in but ill try tomorrow morning n let u know what happens thx

at the tip of the wire(the part that goes on the plug) there should be a metal part that snaps on to the plug maybe its not snaping into place. get some pliers and squeez it so it will have a tighter fit.
also make sure the #1 plug is not all fouled up

the plug was fouled up. i re-gap the plug. the wire still pops out tho so im going to try using pliers to make it a tighter fit.

what kind of plug wires are you using? Cheap plug wires will do that sometimes.
And if the plug is not tightened enough the compression will pop the plug wire up. That's just my experience though.
