- verify your base idle is set correctly. short the Service Jumper that is under the passenger side of the dash. It's used to check for CELs. (see FAQ at top of this forum) Start car (CEL will be on) make sure your idle is ~800. If not adjust idle control screw on throttle body.
- take a volt meter with the ignition in run but the car not running and verify that you have .5 volts on the center wire on the TPS.
- With the car running, take some carb cleaner and spray it around the vacuum hoses, if the idle changes you know the area that the vacuum leak is.
- AICV = Air idle control valve, fastened to the rear of the intake manifold. It's that the ECU uses to set the idle when the intake butterfly is completely closed.
- ECT = engine coolant temp sensor. It detects the temperature... well I'm sure you can guess.
any of these will either directly or indirectly cause this CEL.
BTW this is covered very well in the Helm manual.

Re: code 505 (Relic1)
i have a ls/vtec in a 96 hatch, i'm using stock harness, a friend that i knew did the swap for me and now i have to pass inspection, so i took my obd 1 ecu out and put a stock ecu in i have fixed all the other codes that the ecu had but i can't fix the p1509 code. (manufac vec.spd. idle control auxiliary circuit). i have a vixtor-x intake, 65mm edelbrock trottle body, holley fuel rail and preassure reg. i changed all of these and put si intake, throttle, fuel rail, regulator. but the car doesn't like to stay on when i put these stock parts. i put all my stuff back exept i put stock injectord but i cant seem to be able to clear the p1509 code. any ideas????

Re: (Relic1)
ok so the 500 check is all good, but i changed the AICV, but it didnt change anything
i start car and it drives great untill its been running for about 15-20 min, then the code will show and if i step on the gas, the car will bog alot. so i pull over and check the codes, and its 505, so i un plug the ecu and plug it back in, and it clears the code and drives great again.
i also used the carb cleaner and sprayed on the hoses and such, but i dont think i have a vacume leak.
also when i start the car idles its at around 2k and drops slowly down to 1k. but if i rev it to say 3k then the rpm will drop to 1k and back up to around 1.5k
PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Damn I wish I could help you here. Thats an annoying problem.
Have you scanned the code? I mean with a OBDII scanner? It should tell you more info than just the code your throwing.
I recommend verifying all engine grounds are free of corrosion and are secure first.
