Default code 17. . . vehicle speed sensor!

help!
i'm throwing this code and my speedometer isn't working. it'll sometimes surge and then die again. it has been broken ever since i was having fun in the snow (ff drift ftl, lol)

where exactly is the sensor? i know it's by the front tires / trans, but can someone pinpoint it out exactly where it is ?

you'll see it on top...if you look at the bottom of the tranny from under the car, you wont find it...its right below it...you can miss it...

yup its the only sensor there, held on by 1 10mm bolt.

here is wha ti would do, before replacing the VSS

take it apart (two 10mm bolts) clean that gunk out of it. regrease it and test.

thats what fixed mine.

It looks like this out of the car.

In the car it has three wires going to it, and is on the top back of the transmission. You don't need to get under the car to get to it, you probably need to take your intake off, but I don't remember. When mine went bad the sensor was actually fine, but the connection where the harness plugs into the vss was bad, so I just replaced the plug on it.

there is one bolt, well 3 total, 2 go to the bracket and the other one bolts the bracket to the tranny. but to remove it you just need to remove the one bolt from the tranny.

technically, no you don't. there is a drain and fill plug on the tranny, which are beside each other.

can you fill the tranny with fluid through there? yes.
is it easier? yes
but seeing that the op is a noob to this kind of stuff, he should use the proper technics to fill his tranny and know when there is enough fluid.

anyway, when regreasing the gears, do you guys know if i can use grade 2 lithium grease to regrease it ? it's by valvoline and it's "multipurpose ep grease"

lmk asap, as the vss is sitting out of the trans. oh and btw, there was no gunk on it, so idk why i was throwing the code. . . ?
