Clutch Trouble
Hi my name is JF I drive a 1993 Honda Civic DX with a d15b.
Here's the problem. When I start my car I have to push my clutch all the way to end, and once it is started and I push the clutch to put it in first well I can't. It won't go in first, second, third, fourth, fifth or reverse. Some may say change the clutch but could it be other things before having to change the clutch?
Could it be other factors?
Thanks
JF

Re: Clutch Trouble (TealCivic93)
k heres what u do. put ur foot on the clutch, slam that bitch right to the bottom as far as it goes, then take the shifter pull it to the left hard and push it up as hard as u can. if that don't do it then u got some problems

Re: Clutch Trouble (TealCivic93)
does it go into gear when the car is shut off?
if it does it's probably the same thing that happened to my car. The springs in the hub fell out of the disc and they are stopping the pressure plate from completely depressing the clutch.

Do not force it into gear like what 'Civicse' said. If it won't go, then it won't go. But do not force it with all your might. You'll just end up breaking something and probably make **** worse. Try and see if it goes into gear with the car off, if not, then get under the car and see if there is anything in the way of the shift linkage and shifter. If there isn't then it may be your tranny. But if it goes into gear with the car off, then it has something to do with your clutch.

Definitely do NOT force the tranny into gear - you could possibly bend a shift fork and **** things up more than you care to.
Can you see the slave cylinder push the actuator rod against the release arm when somone presses on the clutch pedal?
If yes; Can you get into gear withOUT the engine running (we already know you can't with it running)?
If no; Do you see fluid leaking out of the slave cylinder/master cylinder?

IF the springs in the hub fell out of the disc and they are stopping the pressure plate from completely depressing the clutch what can I do? Do I still need to change the clutch? Is it alot of work? Thanks.

Re: (TealCivic93)
Clutch fluid = brake fluid, FYI.
The clutch pedal is directly connected to the clutch master cylinder - so I'll let you put 2 and 2 together to find it.
When you do find it, the resovoir sitting on top of it is what holds the clutch fluid. However, I doubt you would have a leak here. Instead, where the push rod from the clutch pedal goes through the firewall into the master cylinder is the 'area' that you want to check. You'll also want to check the slave cylinder and see if its leaking (you have to pull back the black rubber boot covering it).
If the springs have come out of the pressure plate and are causing this problem - then yes, you have to remove the tranny and replace the clutch. There is nothing you can do to repair it while the tranny is attached to the car.

Went to the garage today and right away my mecanic noticed ALL the oil from my master cylinder had emptied onto the carpet in my car, so he's going to fix it and we'll see what's next...... thanks everyone for the suggestions.... do you think everything will be ok after that and i'll be able to drive the car after?

How much is he charging you for replacement?

Re: (TealCivic93)
that's a pretty decent price, I had this happen to my nissan truck once, I don't know how, but my dad fixed it for a short time till he could completely fix the pump (something up with it not fully activating) by putting a penny in the thing that applies pressure (I have long forgotten what part it may be)....aint it amazing the good help you can find on HT?

Re: (TealCivic93)
i say its your master cylinder or slave, most likely your slave. I had a similar problem. Does your clutch often stay on the floor when you drive? if so its your slave
