clutch,synchro, shift fork??(searched)
Hey
first the car is a 93 si. d16z6
There has been some issues with changing gears in my car. Hard to get into gear grinds into 4th periodically. as well if i don't shift to 3rd before reverse it grinds as well.
I know the clutch is on its way out so that will be replaced while the tranny is dropped(happening today)with the throwout and pilot bearing as well.
My question is could this problem be related to a bent or broken shift fork? i have searched and come up with mostly "drop it and inspect" blah blah blah.
I have a cx tranny around that was working great until the motor was pulled for a swap. Is the shift fork from that compatible with the si tranny? i know d series trannys are interchangeable, but i would rather have the SI working properly.
and one last question, how much is a shift fork from honda roughly? and should i go with a steel y8 shift fork rather than the aluminum shift fork in the z6 tranny if it turns out the fork is a problem?. I have been reading the steel fork is a little tougher than the aluminum one.
Thanx in advance, i will do my best to keep checking in while i drop the tranny today

Re: clutch,synchro, shift fork??(searched) (gunnis)
i've got a y8 in my hatch,
pretty good tranny i'd say..
steel shift fork? is that the piece that engages the clutch/throwout bearing?

Re: clutch,synchro, shift fork??(searched) (hatchling37)
Thanx hatchling.
I am dropping the flywheel off tommorow to be resurfaced. And pick up a new shift fork to go along with my pilot and release bearings.
My only concern at this point is what tranny i will end up using when i get the flywheel back later tommorow.
The clutch was pretty worn, one spring fell out once the clutch plate was off and the small metal edge that holds the spring was scraped right off.
This left the 6, 12 point 17mm socket bolts holding the flywheel down worn and scraped from the clutch being bad.
I experienced some grinding from third to fourth and i worry about the synchro being on its way out in the si tranny.
I may play it safe add a new fork and release bearing to a cx tranny that fell victim to a swap, and hope i don't have to drop a tranny for sometime.

Re: (JDMlyfestyle)
if i were to keep the SOHC i would probably look around for the y8. My d16 has 220 km's(canada) and will be driven untill the day it drops. then it willbe replaced with something else, not yet known.
