Default Clutch slave or clutch master cylinder?

Just yesterday I noticed my clutch engagement point suddenly felt closer to the floor. It didnt feel too unbearable so I drove home. Thus morning I got the same problem. Suddenly engagement is like at 1/4 pedal, and it first starts grabbing at 1/2 inch off the floor. There's like an inch and a half of pure slop at the top. You can flick the pedal around with your foot a bit. I can't quite see any leaks but the slave cylinder looks OLDDDDD..... the fluid is full but dirty. I'm not sure if its a master or slave failure. What symptoms would each exhibit? I've also heard the clutch pedal bracket can cause issues so i will look at it after work. In the mean time, I got a slave (15$) and I'll throw it on tomorrow with new fluid and see if it fixes itself. The reason I need help is this came on so suddenly without warning. Any ideas?

Look for leaks around each cylinder. Then look for leaks along the rubber and metal lines.

Actually there's seepage inside the car where the clutch pedal plunges in. I assume the master replacement is straightforward. Any special tips tho? I'm gonna replace both cylinders simultaneously

The only thing that goes wrong with slave cylinders is leakage to the outside. Master cylinders on the other hand can leak internally or externally.

Its pretty simple replacement right? Undo cotter pin from fork, unbolt hydraulic line at both ends, unbolt master, reinstall new master, unbolt slave, reinstall new slave, reconnect lines, fill and bleed. Did I forget anything?

Apparently there's a 10mm fitting MC and a 12mm fitting MC. I assume the 12mm is the JDM spec?

I recently bought a car that has the same issue. When you replace the MC, are you going with just the cheapo brand or is there a specific brand you'll go with?

Haha, honestly it's because I'm just starting on the journey of auto repair and have no idea which brands to trust or go with. Is Exedyusa reliable with MC and SC?
