CLUTCH replacement Question
Hey guys
How do you know if a clutch or any part associated with it needs to be replaced. Here are the symptoms
Loud screeching/high pitched continous noise while driving. (especially when pressing gas pedal)
sounds seems to go away when braking.
Acceleration and braking themselves are not affected and go at teh same rate as before
Does this wound like clutch problem?

Re: CLUTCH replacement Question (Cute EK)
well, wouldnt that be more more plausbile if the sound was produced when applying the brakes?
Plus, I got the brake pads done at a Honda dealer last year. So they should be still good

Re: CLUTCH replacement Question (civicboy95)
may not be the clutch itself but the throwout bearing? or that bearing that is pressed in the flywheel i do not remember the name of it though.. I am not 100% sure on this so don't hold me to it. Also check your belts. Mine squiles sometimes randomly and once i get to about 3500rpm's it goes away... The throw out bearing as i remember now will cause the noise but in the jeep i replaced it on it only was when the clutch pedal was all the way pressed.

try to locate the screech, is it comin from a belt? another possibility is that you have a rock shoved up in you brake rotor dust shields...you can put the car up on jackstands and haev a buddy give it gas (be careful! i wouldnt reccomend laying under it!)

yes it wouldn't be the brakes really only make a noise then they need to be replaced and the little metal indicator rubs the rotor

Well, I have had the rock in pads experience and thsi is a bit different. That sound usually comes when turning the wheel.
Thats teh thing, i tried locating the sound of the screech, however if teh car is just ideling, no sound. Only when in motion without brakes applied.
How does one know if the clutch has gone bad?

like i said the clutch doesnt make a nose like u are saying when it goes bad it just slips. also like i said it has to be a bearing either in the flywheel or the tob.. otherwise the timing tensoner(sp) or your plain belts

to check the bearings you have to drop the trans and when you do that you should just replace the clutch and the bearings if your in there. Dropping the trans isnt hard. Just read really well up on it and air tools are a big help along with a friend. I did it my first time with just reading and searching
