clutch problems?
 

Well I put in a new clutch and flywheel yesterday and this isn't my first time so I didn't get any mysterious parts leftover. Problem is that clutch pedal feels really light halfway down and then gets more pressure about 2 inchs before bottoming out. I can shift throw the gears and nothing is locked in place or stiff or notchy. Just the clutch pedal feels very sloppy like halfway down and when I go to start the car it gives this high pitch grinding sound like when you try to crank the ignition when the car is already on. Help. I took off from work today to get this thing going. Oh and the clutch is a sprung 6puck and ACT flywheel installed into a y8 tranny and everything was torqued to OEM specs. One thing I noticed is that I'am able to push and wiggle piston on the clutch master cylinder. Shouldn't there be constant pressure on it when I push on it? Only thing I can think of is that I need to bleed the master cylinder or that the MS is shot. Only thing is that nothing is leaking or anything. Bleed the Clutch Master Cylinder. Call it a day.

Just did and it's still feels mushy. How can you tell if the master cylinder is bad or the slave cylinder is bad?

Check for leaks. The Maser Cylinder usually leaks inside the cabin, where the "rod" connects to the clutch pedal. Check for any gunky buildup of fluid there. If the rubber grommet is dry, check in the engine bay. Check fittings, check ALL lines, check clutch fluid resevoir. Last, but not least, check the Slave Cylinder for any leaks around or inside the rubber boot.

BTW, how are you bleeding them?

Crack open Slave Cylinder bleeder screw.
Push down on pedal.
Tighten Slave Cylinder bleeder screw.
Release clutch pedal.
Repeat a few times until there is sufficient pressure?

I had a friend tell me it was more likely a clearance issue with the flywheel and starter. Aren't all flywheel from 91-00 all interchangeable? Reason being is that the flywheel I was told was off a y8 and I'm running a y8 tranny and y7 engine. Even so it should still work shouldn't it? Whats the difference in earlier(88-90) flywheels and the newer(92-00)? Could it be an earlier d-series flywheel that I got and the guy I got it from just of been a moron? It doesn't have a part number on the flywheel anywhere but looks extremely like a ACT streetlite flywheel with the oval sections at the outter sections of the wheel. Looks like I may have to take this fucken tranny back off and throw the old flywheel back on. Any suggestion?
