!!! Clutch problem: master/slave cylinder failure
Ok, so I have a master or slave cylinder failure, I don't know which. We'll start with the basics, when I press my clutch it floors down without any resistance whatsoever. I didn't check into anything as of yet, because it's late, dark, cold, and snowing. What should I look for in the cylinders for problems? How much on average do new cylinders cost (both, don't want to risk replacing one and then finding out the other was bad.)? I'm not certain if this is the master/slave cylinders, so any other suggestions are welcome. The transmission in question is obviously hydraulic and is in my 1999 Honda CRV (AWD). Thank you in advance.

Re: !!! Clutch problem: master/slave cylinder failure (Schurke)
first check to see if there is any fluid in the resivoir( should be next to the brake master cyl's resivoir).
Check under dash and see if theres and fluid coming from the MC
Check the slave cyl for leaks
check hard line from mc to dampner(if it has one)
Rubber hose if it has one.
You said theres no pressure so if might be a defective mc or slave
Did this just happen now all of the sudden or have you worked on it recently.
Get a friend and try to bleed the system, it will take FOREVER sometimes to bleed it but keep going. If that doesnt help then probably the mc or slave.
Does the pedal return by itself?

That's what I'm thinking, but I'm not sure.

No work done to the car in that area and no previous owners.

The pedal returns by itself. It feels very light when I press it down, no resistance. The clutch still engages when I press it down.

Re: !!! Clutch problem: master/slave cylinder failure (Schurke)
try and bleed it in the morning and check the fluid/leaks. and go from there. good luck. If the slave is easly visible have a friend see if it looks like it moves fully when you press the clutch in.
Sounds like a bad mc or slave.

Re: !!! Clutch problem: master/slave cylinder failure (SteveoBA8)
Thank you SteveoBA8, your help is greatly appreciated!
Here is the checklist:
1. Check to see if there is any fluid in the reservoir.
2. Check under dash and see if there's and fluid coming from the MC.
3. Check the SC for leaks.
4. Check hard line from MC to dampener and any other hoses/lines connected to MC/SC.
5. Check if SC is moving when pressing clutch.
6. Bleed.
7. Pull SC and look at the pusher rod. If it's bad the fluid will be pouring pass the seal.
8. Repeat 7 with MC.
Anything I should add/change?

Re: !!! Clutch problem: master/slave cylinder failure (SteveoBA8)
Briefly...
So it was leaking because the damn thing was dry. One of the seals in the MC went bad (from the looks of it) and was slowly dripping away... So I filled her up, she barely drips but I will have to either replace the MC or try to figure a way to replace/fix the seal. Again I will have to thank SteveoBA8 for his help with this issue.
