Default Clutch Life and Problem?

how long does a normal clutch plate last on a b series transmission. miles, years???? my clutch isnt shifting properly, kinda needs to be forced in to shift gears. Changed the master and slave cylinders, for everychange and bleed it gives me good performance for a month. then goes bad im guessing it might be a bearing problem or clutch is gone.

If you've replaced the master and slave clutch cylinders it sounds more like you have a transmission issue than a clutch issue. Worn clutches do not grab. Bad throwout bearings are noisy. You're having the opposite problems.

yes but when you pressureize the clutch it works fine, but when its being bled it does not seem to have any bubbles just makes it feel better, and shifts smooth. but until today everything just wont shift, i can shift when the car is off, but when its on wont engage. this time bleeding it doesnt help, think clutch is gone or maybe a bad bearing, but the clutch disk was a used one and has been in use for over 2 years now, thats why i asked on whats the average life of a clutch. last time this happened to me was on my manual pickup truck, opened up the transmission and the cluch was bare. but i plan to replace the pilot and throwout bearings too just to be safe, but i always do with every clutch replacement.

A stock clutch will last well over 2 years, more like 10-15.

oem clutchs can last a long time but its all on the driver, some people can have a clutch last them the time it takes to leave the driveway or like D Griff said along time, and honestly it just sounds like you need a new clutch

well when you swap tha clutch go with a heavy duty act clutch, its not that heavy and its made to be sliped so you can really "enjoy" it all day long and it can handle up to 225 ft-lbs torque i think maby 275

Now that you've changed your original post and say that bleeding fixes the problem for a month I would guess you have air into the system. This is the only thing you're changing when you're bleeding it. You may just be moving the bubble around. You would be amazed at how much you can bleed the line and still have air in it. Double check all your lines.

I cant see how shifting issues could be caused by a worn clutch. A worn clutch wont grab. If you can shift fine with the car off then your trans internals are likely fine. Bad bearing wouldn't prevent you from shifting...it would be noisy. If your pressure plate diaphragm spring is broken it would consistently give you shifting problems.

OEM clutches with conservative driving can last 100,000 mi easy.

My first OE clutch lasted 130K miles. The second one (exedy stage 1) is still going strong at 200K.

The OE replacement on my GSR has about 30K on it.

It sounds to me like you have some kind of leak in the system or something.

yes usually bleeding works, but this time it wont even shift into gear while the engine is on. plus on top of that when i bleed the clutch there are absolutely no air bubbles coming out of the slave cylinder as far as i can tell. As for the clutch im not sure it lasts over 100k miles, I also have a 94 toyota pickup and i need to replace it every 3 years or so give or take. and its not even 100k. When i bleed the clutch everything seems fine and flowing. And like i said i even replaced the metal hose leading to the slave cylinder, more on my part that i stripped the connector on the slave cylinder using wrong tools. the only time this happened to me was on my truck and that was when my clutch ran out. shift woulnt be possible while engine was on. so no one ever had this situation before?

Plus if i had a leak and my fluid would drop, plus i would at least see a puddle on the groud at the least. but i am not experiencing any of those.

yeah if you had a leak you can still leak internaly, if the clutch master cylinder is bad it will by pass fluid same as a brake master cylinder

yes but are you saying that that the last 5 clutch master cylinders i changed in 12 months are all bad?? that doesnt sound reasonable and besides it didnt even leak anywhere. the only places id think that might leak internally as u might say is the master and slave cylinders only, or else u would of known a leak on the ground through the hose. besides that whether it was leaking internally or externally the resevor never went down.
