I had an exedy twin plate put in my evo and it made that grinding noise when I came down from 3-4k in every gear. They said it was the throwout bearing, so thats what im guessing. Is it oem spec?

it's opposite of what you said.
if it only happens when you push the clutch in, its probably input shaft bearing
if it only happens when you let the clutch out, then its the throw out bearing

So pull it off and inspect the TO and Pilot Bearing. Check the Clutch Fork and anything else, and if everything checks out sepertate the tranny.
