Default Clutch Grinding Noise

I'm sorry if this question has been answered before but:
I have a 1992 Civic CX Hatch and when I am not pressing in the clutch pedal there is a sort of grinding noise and when the clutch pedal is pressed in the grinding noise is not there. I think that I just need to replace the clutch but what do you guys think? I can still put the shifter in all of the gears smoothly. Thanks.

i have the same problem. i thought it was the clutch too. but when i took it to a transmission specialist the guy told me it wasn't the clutch. but it was the bearing going bad. he told be it was gonna cost me around $800 (mostly labor) to get it fixed. so right now i'm looking to get the whole tranny replaced. $800

Holy ****! Its more than likely the pilot bearing or the trowout bearing. YOu can get a replacement clutch (the both of you) ans they come with both pilot and throwout bearings. Its very easy to replace (with minor knowldge) and if you cant do it yourself I know you know someone that wouldnt charge you 700 dollars labor. Even if it ISNT any of these problems, then atleast you got yourself a new clutch and some new bearings. However, it may be some internal bearings (inside the tranny) as well.

Yeah, I've asked some guys here in vegas about it and they believe the noise is the throw out bearing/pilot bearing. So clutch kits come with both of those huh? I found a SACHS one on nopi.com for like $140 before shipping. I'm just looking for a normal clutch for the time being and upgrading later..mostly due to the lack of resources to purchase a $300-$400 performance clutch kit that wont really do anything because my car is bone stock right now. But I've heard that SACHS is decent. What do you guys think? Thanks a lot.
